Lip embroidery, also known as lip blush, is a semi-permanent tint that deposits soft, natural colour into the lips — enhancing shape and tone without looking like you're wearing lipstick. If you're considering it for the first time, here's what the process and healing actually involve.

Choosing a Shade

Before any pigment is applied, your artist will match a shade to your natural lip tone and undertone — most clients choose something close to their natural colour with a bit more depth, rather than a bold, opaque colour. This keeps the result looking like healthy, naturally pigmented lips rather than makeup.

What the Appointment Feels Like

A topical numbing cream is applied before the embroidery begins, so most clients describe the sensation as mild pressure or light tingling rather than pain. The full appointment, including shape mapping and numbing time, usually takes around two hours.

The Healing Timeline

  • Days 1–3: colour looks noticeably brighter and more saturated than the final result
  • Days 4–7: light flaking or peeling as the outer layer heals — resist picking at it
  • Weeks 2–4: true colour settles in, usually softer and more natural than it appeared right after treatment

A touch-up session after the initial healing period lets your artist perfect the colour and even out any patchy areas — this is a normal part of the process, not a sign anything went wrong.

Who It Suits

Lip embroidery works well for clients with naturally pale or uneven-toned lips, asymmetric lip shape, or anyone who wants a wash of colour without reapplying lipstick throughout the day. Results typically last one to two years before a refresh is needed.
